Simply one of the best filmmaking experiences I've ever had. When I first received the script I thought...'this is too long for a short film'. I was wrong, it was tight, it was well crafted and I was laughing at my computer. In my head I pictured what it would be like to be given bad news by Ricky Gervais & Richard Ayoade but I think Austin Hayden (left) & David Yates (right) pulled it off brilliantly. The cinemagraph that currently plays below is of the moment in the film that took the most takes purely because everyone behind the camera couldn't keep from laughing.
But the humour, writing and acting weren't the only great things about this film. The Director Alasdair MacRae was a pleasure to work with. He knew exactly what he wanted for his shots and he really knew how to get the best from his actors.
This was also the best catered film I've ever worked on. What would normally be bread, cheese and a bag of crisps became gourmet lasagne's & chilli's. I'm a vegetarian but the rest of the crew enjoyed bacon and cereal for breakfast each day and there was always a large amount of fruit on hand. Didn't stop us stealing lollipops from the props though.
The film is currently being pitched as a TV Sitcom pilot by Alasdair & Bryce Hart (Writer) but I'm sure it'll also be on the festival circuit in 2014.

Amazingly funny David Yates & Austin Hayden Smidt

A very overcast day brings a 2K to the rescue. The rain brought the umbrella to that rescue.

Director checking a shot. One of the best Directors I've worked with is Alasdair MacRae.

I'm not sure I could do what I do without Drew. The man is telepathic...He might be the real DP.

I'm sure thats what we were doing.

No more satisfying sound...as you can clearly tell by Drew's face.

Dealing with a bad diagnosis in a fun way.

With a scorching blonde at the back of my head I needed to take inspiration to keep the heat off.

Could have left a webcam on these guys and it would still have been a good film.

We definitely pushed ourselves on this one. Director Alasdair MacRae taking a break during set ups.

Honestly one of the tightest and best scripts I've ever had sent to me.
