This is probably one of the most difficult things I've filmed or edited but I felt it was something I had to make. I went along to the Edinburgh demonstration against the actions of ATOS & The Work Capability Assessment and asked the people there to share their experiences on camera. I got far more than I was bargaining for and as a result the video is over 10 minutes long, far beyond any recommended size for web consumption (Although I've been told it doesn't feel like 10 minutes at all...in a good way).
The fact is that I set out to make a video that would give a voice to people who aren't being heard and I chose to not cut anymore than I had to. These people and many more like them deserve far more attention than this video can give them and I hope anyone reading this will watch, listen and see why.
I called it 'Give ATOS' because of a funny play on words I came across on a Facebook group that protests ATOS. Despite the vulgarity I felt it summed everything up that needed to be said about the situation as a whole. And just to be clear I made this film entirely of my own volition because I believe in the cause and I can neither understand nor silently tolerate the actions of the UK government towards the most vulnerable members of our society.
There is more detailed information on the vimeo page itself about this video.
For any filmmakers reading, a nice piece of juicy camera information. The entire film is completely ungraded as I took the opportunity to test out the Cinelook picture profile. I really do quite like it, it can be hard to control the highlights but there are still details in there and if you don't have time for a grade it definitely does a nice job. I think I'll be seriously considering it for weddings. I think coupled with some Magic Lantern ISO tweaks to increase the contrast it'll save me hours of time in the future on small projects.
